How does a limit order differ from a market order?A market order executes immediately at the best available price; a limit order sets the worst price the trader will accept, so it may not fill at all.Market Organization

-
How do venture capital and leveraged buyouts differ within private equity?Venture capital funds young, high-growth companies, mostly with equity; leveraged buyouts acquire mature companies using substantial debt.Alternative Investments
-
What does the utility function used in portfolio theory imply about a more risk-averse investor?A higher risk-aversion coefficient means each unit of variance costs more utility, so the investor needs a bigger return to accept risk. In symbols, .Portfolio Risk and Return
-
What objectives and constraints does an investment policy statement set out?Return and risk objectives, plus constraints on liquidity, time horizon, taxes, legal and regulatory factors, and unique circumstances.Planning and Behavioral Finance
Mnemonic: RRTTLLU: return, risk, time horizon, taxes, liquidity, legal and regulatory, unique circumstances. -
What are contraction risk and extension risk in a mortgage-backed security?Contraction risk: when rates fall, prepayments speed up and principal returns early, to be reinvested at lower rates.
