The 10 sample cards as a list
  1. A data centre wants to stop one badge holder from letting a second person in behind them. Which physical control solves this?
An access control vestibule (formerly called a mantrap): two interlocking doors where the second will not open until the first has closed, so only one person passes at a time.
Security › Physical Security and Data Destruction
  2. What are bollards, and what threat do they address?
Short, sturdy posts placed outside entrances and buildings to stop vehicles from ramming into them while still letting people through.
Security › Physical Security and Data Destruction
  3. Laptops at a trade show booth must not walk away. Which simple physical control helps?
A cable lock that tethers each laptop through its security slot to a fixed object.
Security › Physical Security and Data Destruction
  4. Why is degaussing useless for wiping an SSD?
Degaussing erases magnetic media, but an SSD stores data in flash memory, not magnetically. Use a secure erase command or physical destruction; for anything above low-sensitivity data, NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 favors incineration or disintegration over shredding.
Security › Physical Security and Data Destruction
  5. A PC began blue-screening right after a display driver update. What is the usual fix?
Boot into Safe Mode if necessary and roll back the driver in Device Manager, or use System Restore.
    Software Troubleshooting › Windows
  6. What does System Restore change, and what does it leave alone?
System Restore reverts system files, the registry, installed programs and drivers to a restore point. It does not change personal files such as documents and photos.
    Software Troubleshooting › Windows
  7. A single user's sign-in takes minutes and their desktop settings keep resetting, while other users on the PC are fine. What is the likely fix?
Rebuild the user profile, since that profile is corrupted. Back up the user's data first.
    Software Troubleshooting › Windows
  8. What information should a good help-desk ticket contain?
User and device details, a clear problem description, category and severity, progress notes, any escalation, and the final resolution.
Operational Procedures › Documentation and Change Management
  9. What is a service-level agreement (SLA)?
A documented commitment between a provider and its customer setting expected service levels, such as response and resolution times for each priority.
Operational Procedures › Documentation and Change Management
  10. Why do IT departments use onboarding and offboarding checklists?
So every new user gets the right accounts, hardware and access, and every departing user has accounts disabled, access removed and equipment returned, with nothing missed.
Operational Procedures › Documentation and Change Management
