  1. What is the youngest age at which an Idaho teen can get a Driver Training Permit and start a driver-training course?

    A) 14
    B) 15
    C) 14½
    D) 15½
    C) 14½

From 14½ a teen can hold the Driver Training Permit and enroll in an approved course; the in-car lessons come from an instructor or, under Idaho's parent-led option, a qualifying parent. The handbook still says the permit works only with an instructor; since March 17, 2026, the law lets a qualifying parent teach anywhere in Idaho.

  2. Which phone use while driving is against Idaho law?

    A) Any call, even on a hands-free device
    B) Only phone use inside work zones
    C) Only phone use inside school zones
    D) Reading, writing or sending texts by hand
    D) Reading, writing or sending texts by hand

Idaho's ban goes beyond texting: using a phone or other mobile device by hand while driving is illegal, while voice or hands-free use, with one touch at most, is allowed.
    Phones & Distraction
  3. In daytime, Idaho requires headlights once you can no longer clearly see people and vehicles at what distance ahead?

    A) 1,000 feet
    B) 300 feet
    C) 200 feet
    D) 500 feet
    D) 500 feet

Fog, smoke, dust or rain that cuts vision to 500 feet calls for headlights, preferably low beams.
    Headlights & Signals
  4. When parallel parking on an Idaho street, what is the farthest your wheels may be from the curb?

    A) 6 inches
    B) 18 inches
    C) 12 inches
    D) 24 inches
    B) 18 inches

Park parallel to the curb with your wheels no more than 18 inches from it, facing the direction traffic moves; with no curb, pull as near to the shoulder's edge as you practically can. The handbook applies the 18 inches to a road edge as well, but the law sets it only for a curb.

  5. Under Idaho law, when may you turn left on a steady red light?

    A) Onto a one-way street, without a full stop
    B) Onto a one-way street, but only once you have stopped and yielded
    C) Only where a sign says left on red is allowed
    D) Never; a red light bans every left turn
    B) Onto a one-way street, but only once you have stopped and yielded

The turn may start from any street but must end on a one-way street; come to a full stop, let pedestrians and cross traffic go first, and obey any sign that bans it. The handbook's turning section says from a one-way street, but the law allows it from any street.
    Turns & Lanes
  6. Under Idaho law, children up to what age must ride in an approved child safety seat in a non-commercial vehicle?

    A) 4 years old and younger
    B) 6 years old and younger
    C) 8 years old and younger
    D) 12 years old and younger
    B) 6 years old and younger

Idaho's child-restraint law covers children aged six or younger, with narrow exceptions such as every seat belt already being in use.
