French A1 — In Context: Core Words flashcards

8 of 92 cards free to study here · 15 topics · the whole deck is built into Willys

Ninety-two French A1 sentences, each blanking one word from the folder's A1 vocabulary decks (people, time and places, verbs, describing words) so you produce it from context, with the English gloss as the hint.

Drills deck · part of French A1–A2 · written against: CEFR A1–A2; standard metropolitan French; the vocabulary is 1,000 of the most frequent everyday words of an OpenSubtitles 2018 frequency list, since DELF publishes no word list. Updated 2026-10-10.

In the app every card is read aloud: the Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish or other language side in its own native voice and the English side in yours, with a hands-free Listen mode for whole decks.

About these cards

Review status: Second-reader reviewed, with corrections applied.

Checked against:

  • Answers are headwords of this folder's A1 vocabulary decks; word selection follows a frequency list of French content words (OpenSubtitles 2018 via hermitdave/FrequencyWords: word lists CC BY-SA 4.0, code MIT), cleaned by hand. Meanings checked against the Le Robert and Larousse online dictionaries and the TLFi (CNRTL), verb forms against the Bescherelle conjugation tables, glosses against the Cambridge and Larousse French–English dictionaries, and the few facts about France and Switzerland against Météo-France, the French foreign ministry and UNESCO. All sentences are original.
