The 6 sample questions as a list
  1. Completa la frase: «Mis hermanas son muy ___; siempre saludan a los vecinos con una sonrisa.»

    A) simpático
    B) simpática
    C) simpáticos
    D) simpáticas
    D) simpáticas

Simpático (nice, friendly) agrees with mis hermanas in gender and number, so it takes the feminine plural: My sisters are very nice. The masculine plural simpáticos would only fit a mixed or all-male group.

  2. Vas en un autobús lleno y tienes que pasar entre dos personas para bajar. ¿Qué dices?

    A) De nada.
    B) Lo siento mucho.
    C) ¡Buen provecho!
    D) Con permiso.
    D) Con permiso.

Con permiso (excuse me, may I get by) is the phrase for squeezing past people or leaving a place. Lo siento expresses regret or sympathy, not a request to pass.

  3. Lee el mensaje: «Hola, soy Diego. Hoy no voy a clase: tengo fiebre desde el domingo y me duelen los oídos. Esta tarde tengo cita en el centro de salud.» ¿Por qué no va Diego a clase?

    A) Porque cuida a su abuela.
    B) Porque está de vacaciones.
    C) Porque está enfermo.
    D) Porque tiene una entrevista.
    C) Porque está enfermo.

Tengo fiebre desde el domingo (I have been running a fever since Sunday) and me duelen los oídos (my ears hurt) mean Diego is sick; tengo cita en el centro de salud is a medical appointment, not a job interview.

  4. Completa la frase: «Mi jefa quiere que ___ el informe antes del viernes.»

    A) terminar
    B) termino
    C) termine
    D) terminé
    C) termine

Querer que with a different subject triggers the subjunctive: quiere que termine (she wants me to finish). The infinitive works only when there is one subject (quiero terminar).

    A) pero
    B) sino
    C) sin embargo

After a negative, sino introduces the correct alternative: not this week but (rather) in two weeks. Pero adds a contrast without replacing the first idea.
